Fulbright Greater Los Angeles hosted a multi-stage cultural and educational excursion through downtown Los Angeles, introducing participants to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Los Angeles Central Library and Grand Central Market. The event combined guided exploration, historical insight, and community building, offering Fulbrighters a deeper connection to the cultural fabric of the city.

The day began with a docent-led tour of the Los Angeles Central Library, an architectural gem approaching its 100-year anniversary, where participants learned about its rich history, art, and design. Following the tour, Professor Matthew Weathers led a walking exploration of nearby landmarks, including Maguire Gardens, the Bonaventure Hotel, the Biltmore Hotel, and other notable sites that highlight the layered history and urban design of downtown Los Angeles.

Participants then took the historic Angels Flight railway to Grand Central Market, where they enjoyed a wide range of international cuisine and continued conversations in a lively, communal setting. The event concluded with an optional visit to the Los Angeles Festival of Books, further extending the day’s focus on culture, learning, and public engagement.

Bringing together Fulbrighters from diverse disciplines and backgrounds, the excursion fostered meaningful dialogue and connection while celebrating Los Angeles as a place of rich history, creativity, and global exchange. Events like this reflect Fulbright GLA’s commitment to cultural programming, lifelong learning, and building a strong, engaged alumni community.
